Blackbuck EV unveils 9 m electric bus VIRO 2X

Buses

Blackbuck Electric Vehicles has unveiled the VIRO 2X, a 9-metre battery-electric bus designed for urban mobility, corporate transport, and app-based premium shuttle services. The launch marks the company’s strategic expansion from long-distance electric coaches into the urban mobility segment, following its ELON 3X multi-axle platform, which is currently progressing toward production.

The VIRO 2X is built on a proprietary EV-native architecture that combines an aero-grade aluminium and composite spaceframe with a high-strength stainless steel skateboard platform. This approach reduces overall vehicle weight compared to conventional buses in the segment, while maintaining structural integrity and durability. The platform has been developed entirely in-house, integrating structure, electrical systems, and software into a unified architecture.

The vehicle has been engineered with a clear focus on fleet efficiency, cost per kilometre, and operational reliability, while also prioritising passenger comfort. It features a low-noise cabin, refined suspension, and improved ride stability to enhance the overall travel experience.

The platform supports multiple interior configurations, including a 34-seat layout and a 30-seat fully reclining premium luxury variant, enabling deployment across corporate transport, premium shuttle services, and private charter operations.

From a performance standpoint, the company claims energy consumption of up to 0.6 kWh per km and a range of up to 260 km at 80% state of charge, driven by its lightweight design and system-level efficiency.

“With VIRO 2X, we are focused on how efficiently mobility can operate in real-world conditions,” said R. K. Raju, Founder & CEO, Blackbuck EV.

Blackbuck positions the VIRO 2X around lifecycle efficiency and operational reliability, enabling reduced maintenance requirements and improved uptime for fleet operators.

The VIRO 2X has been engineered and manufactured in India with a strong localisation focus, supported by global suppliers, in line with its positioning: “Engineered in India, with global technology standards.”

Pilot batch deployment is scheduled from Q4 2026, with initial units to be delivered for validation and live demonstration across select urban markets.
