Tsuyo Manufacturing has secured two new patents for advanced electric motor technologies, reinforcing its push to build globally competitive, design-led EV systems from India.

The newly granted patents cover a non-magnetic bridge assisted synchronous reluctance motor and a fault-tolerant five-phase interior permanent magnet motor with dual inverter control. Together, they mark a significant step in the company’s effort to develop high-performance, efficient and reliable powertrain solutions for electric mobility.
The first innovation focuses on improving efficiency and torque density in synchronous reluctance motors by introducing a non-magnetic bridge design. This helps reduce energy losses while improving structural strength and lowering dependence on rare-earth materials—an increasingly important factor in EV manufacturing.
The second patent addresses reliability and performance through a five-phase permanent magnet motor supported by a dual inverter system. The design allows dynamic switching between operating modes to optimise efficiency during startup and deliver higher torque when required. It also ensures continued operation even in the event of a phase failure, making it suitable for demanding on-road and off-road applications.
Mr. Vijay Kumar, Founder and CEO of Tsuyo Manufacturing, said the patents reflect the company’s focus on building core technologies under a “Design in India for the world” approach. He added that the company is working towards developing resilient and scalable powertrain systems that address real-world performance challenges in electric mobility.
The technologies have been developed with support from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, highlighting the role of academic collaboration in advancing indigenous innovation.
Tsuyo has deployed over 300,000 powertrains across multiple electric mobility platforms and works with more than 25 OEMs across commercial vehicles, off-road equipment and industrial applications. The company continues to expand its intellectual property portfolio, with over 29 patentable innovations spanning motor design, materials and embedded systems.
With certifications including ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and IATF, and a growing export footprint, Tsuyo is positioning itself as an integrated EV powertrain player. The company has also received approval from the Government of Karnataka for a new manufacturing expansion, aimed at boosting production capacity and accelerating innovation in line with India’s electrification goals.
