SuperPanther advances European electric truck platform and outlines next step in intelligent transportation

At IAA Transportation 2026, SuperPanther is reporting commercial progress with the eTopas 600, presenting technologies for future vehicles and outlining its approach to intelligent heavy-duty transportation.

The eTopas 600 has achieved European Whole Vehicle Type Approval, is manufactured with Steyr Automotive in Austria and is entering customer operations. SuperPanther plans to deliver around 100 trucks by the end of 2026 and 1,000 vehicles to European customers by the end of 2027.

The company is also presenting a next-generation EverDrive electric axle, a high-voltage domain controller and its Truck Brain concept, which adds onboard mission reasoning to the real-time driving system.

“Electric trucks are moving from engineering programmes into customer operations,” said Dr Michael Ruf, President Europe of SuperPanther. “The eTopas 600 is the platform on which we are demonstrating reliable range, efficient energy use, productive charging and lifecycle support in Europe.”

The eTopas 600 enters European customer operations

Developed for European regulations and operating conditions, the 4×2 eTopas 600 has a 621 kWh battery and offers a range of up to approximately 560 kilometres, with energy consumption of approximately 0.94 kWh per kilometre under representative conditions.

Actual performance depends on vehicle configuration, payload, route and operating conditions.

The eTopas 600 supports dual CCS charging with combined charging power of up to approximately 660 kW under suitable conditions. Its electrical architecture is also prepared for future Megawatt Charging System capability.

SuperPanther has completed the first customer deliveries of the eTopas 600. The vehicles are now in daily commercial operation across customer applications in Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Poland and the Czech Republic. To support this expanding fleet, SuperPanther is developing its European service, diagnostics, spare-parts and software-support network with Alltrucks and other partners.

Core technologies for future vehicle generations

SuperPanther’s electric-native architecture integrates the drivetrain, high-voltage system, thermal management, software and vehicle controls.

The next-generation EverDrive electric axle delivers 43,000 Nm of continuous torque and 500 kW of continuous power. Its four-speed reducer, active lubrication and full-coverage oil cooling support heavy-load operation. Compared with the previous generation, it is 130 kilograms lighter and 15 per cent smaller.

The new high-voltage domain controller combines power electronics, energy distribution and control, reducing system weight by more than 50 kilograms and its footprint by approximately one third.

Both technologies are for future product cycles, not the current eTopas 600 specification, and remain subject to validation and industrialisation.

From vehicle software to transport mission support

Current SuperPanther vehicles support data collection, remote diagnostics, updates, energy management and system coordination. Truck Brain builds on this architecture as an onboard embodied-intelligence layer connecting the mission, vehicle status, environment and external information.

An end-to-end driving system converts perception into immediate actions. Truck Brain adds task-level reasoning under uncertainty. Its world model is intended to interpret unusual situations, predict how conditions may develop and provide goals and strategies to the real-time system. This can help autonomous driving assess options in long-tail situations, while the real-time system remains responsible for vehicle movement.

A coordination and safety layer validates high-level decisions before execution. For operation without continuous cloud connectivity, SuperPanther’s first engineering target is a specialised 7-billion-parameter model, compressed for onboard deployment on a next-generation vehicle computer with 1,000 TOPS. Capability will depend on vehicle knowledge, operating data and transport experience, not parameter count alone.

“Automated driving learns how to move the vehicle. Truck Brain adds knowledge, context, memory and reasoning about the mission and the physical world,” said Chao Liu, Founder and CEO of SuperPanther. “The driving system responds in milliseconds; Truck Brain reasons across the journey, with a coordination and safety layer connecting the two.”

SuperPanther plans three stages: brain-assisted L2+, using an onboard AI agent to provide context-aware and explainable assistance; brain-enhanced L4 within clearly defined operating conditions; and, over the longer term, full-mission cargo robots extending intelligence from driving to the wider transport workflow.

For 2027, SuperPanther plans an L2+ highway pilot including active lane changes, in-lane collision avoidance and motorway ramp navigation. The driver remains responsible. All future functions are subject to validation, homologation and regulation.

SuperPanther and DHL sign agreement, to explore embodied intelligence for real-world trucking

At SuperPanther’s press conference at IAA Transportation 2026, SuperPanther and DHL Group signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore potential areas of cooperation related to truck mission intelligence. The parties have expressed their intention to explore how real logistics workflows, requirements testing and operational data could be used to assess intelligent and automated battery-electric trucks in realistic scenarios and help to shape future development requirements.

“In the future, autonomous driving has the potential to make road freight transport safer, more efficient, and more sustainable. DHL Freight has already tested autonomous vehicles in a controlled environment for its own yard logistics operations. However, the regulatory framework required for deployment on public roads in Germany still needs to be clarified. The first SuperPanther truck from European series production is already operating for DHL Freight. Through this MoU, we will expand our collaboration with SuperPanther on topics related to autonomous driving and jointly explore the opportunities this technology can offer for the future of road freight transport”, said Dr. Antje Huber, Head of Strategy, Marketing & Chief of Staff, DHL Freight.

Detailed discussions are under way regarding specific projects, locations, vehicles and schedules. Engineering and operating in Europe

SuperPanther describes its approach as Born Electric, Born Intelligent and Born Global: an integrated electric-energy architecture, embedded software and data, and technology development combined with German engineering and the European manufacturing and service ecosystem.

Its immediate priority is the production, delivery and operation of the eTopas 600. This operational foundation will guide future intelligent functions.
