JSW Greentech Limited, the electric commercial vehicle arm of the JSW Group, has announced the first commercial sale of its AMPSTAR electric trucks. JSW Cement has ordered 100 AMPSTAR 4×2 55T electric tractor trucks (prime movers) for heavy-duty haulage at its Vijaynagar operations. JSW Eco-Mobility will provide the batteries under a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, and Paradeep Parivahan Limited is the logistics partner.

The order comes just over a month after the brand was unveiled. It follows certification of the AMPSTAR 4×2 and 6×4 tractor trucks by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR), which means they meet the safety, performance and regulatory standards needed for Indian roads.
The 4×2 55T truck has a peak power of 430 kW and a peak torque of 2,600 Nm. The 100 trucks will move clinker and slag for JSW Cement on a corridor of about 330 km between Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh and Vijayanagar in Karnataka, carrying an estimated 1.25 lakh tonnes of cargo a month. JSW Eco-Mobility, a subsidiary of JSW Greentech, will power the fleet and build a dedicated corridor with four battery-swapping stations between the two points. Over the contract, the operation is expected to save about 4.5 crore litres of diesel and avoid about 6,250 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

“In just over a month, we have reached a significant milestone, with the first 100 trucks being deployed for JSW Cement’s industrial freight movement,” said Mr. Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech. “Our ambition with AMPSTAR is to be a catalyst in transforming how businesses move goods across India.”
Mr. Narinder Kahlon, Director Finance, JSW Cement, said the deployment “marks an important step towards decarbonising our logistics operations” and will help the company reduce dependence on diesel without compromising efficiency.
AMPSTAR trucks will be built at JSW Greentech’s greenfield plant on about 90 acres at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with an annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. Customers will get power options from 150 kW to 500 kW and a choice of purchase, leasing or BaaS, with charging, financing and after-sales support. The range is planned to expand into tippers and fixed-body dumpers.
