SkillShark EduTech establishes Center of Excellence for EVs in Hyderabad in association with Matrusri Engineering College

SkillShark EduTech, in association with Matrusri Engineering College, has established a Center of Excellence for Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Hyderabad. Several EV Awareness Webinars, Skill Development Programs, Faculty Development Programs, Virtual Projects & Hardware Projects have been implemented in the Center of Excellence since its inception. Wireless Charging System for E-Bicycle and Android Controlled EV Platform are the key innovative projects developed under Center of Excellence till now.

Climate and emissions concerns have brought the adoption of EVs to the forefront in recent times. The governments of some of the biggest automotive markets around the world have not only declared their intentions but have taken bold steps to embrace EVs to take significant steps to curb emissions. The use of electric vehicles in the country will promote renewable energy and also contribute to a reduction in pollution. Pollution in cities is killing people, affecting the physical and mental development of children, and raising a case for the urgent need to change to EVs, walking, cycling, and electric mass transit.

The Indian automobile segment is at the cusp of a technological Revolution: Exciting time ahead for the Indian EV Ecosystem. The coming decade is expected to be the decade of fully electric vehicles. With battery prices reportedly falling 73% since 2010, electric vehicles are expected to be as cheap as fuel-powered cars in the foreseeable future. The electric vehicle revolution is speeding up, but it can only go so far without the necessary skilled workforce, infrastructure, and technology.

There is a huge skill gap between industry and academia when it comes to the transition of the entire automobile industry towards electric mobility. Industry players and the government should come forward to organize more awareness programs to make people aware of the benefits of adopting EVs in the automotive industry. The adoption of EVs in the automobile industry will require a more skilled workforce. Hence we need to have skill development programs, workshops, training, and projects to create a skilled workforce. The existing workforce transition will need a clear strategy. Un-Employability is a bigger problem than unemployment. In order to solve this problem, we need to focus on skills & innovations. Skills will help students to find relevant career building or job opportunities. And innovations will help them to step into Entrepreneurship. Through Skills & Innovations, students will soon be getting opportunities in different job roles in the EV industry or ways to start their start-ups in the allied field.

Skill Shark is an EduTech platform fostering Skills, Arts, Innovations, Employability, and Entrepreneurship for EV Ecosystem with a prime focus on E-Mobility, Renewable Energy and Mechatronics Approach. They have strategic MoUs with Universities/Institutions & EV Startups/Companies for creating a Skilled Workforce through tailored courses & Programs in India & Africa. SkillShark EduTech signed an MoU with Matrusri Engineering College in 2020 to accelerate EV Awareness and Adoption through Skill Development. As part of MoU execution, the Center of Excellence for Electric Vehicles was established at Matrusri Engineering College, Hyderabad, Telangana in Feb 2021. Center of Excellence was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Mr. Jayesh Ranjan (Principal Secretary of the Industries & Commerce and Information Technology Departments of the Telangana government) & Special Guest, Mr. Gopalakrishnan VC (Director Automotive, Government of Telangana) in the presence of Mr. Ashhar Ahmed (Co-Founder & Director Skill Development, SkillShark EduTech), Mr. Akbar Ali Baig (Co-Founder & CEO, SkillShark EduTech), Dr. K. P. Srinivas Rao (Chairman, Matrusri Engineering Society), Dr. D Hanumantha Rao (Principal, Matrusri Engineering College), Dr.G Ravindranath (HOD, EEE, MEC), Dr. M V Kishore (HOD, ME, MEC), Dr. N Srinivasa Rao (HOD, ECE, MEC), Faculty Coordinators (GVSSN Srirama Sarma, P. Fostering Skills, Arts, Innovations, Employability and Entrepreneurship is the key approach for EV Ecosystem Development. Center of Excellence is established to bridge the skill gap between the modern-day learners and the workforce that is required for the EV future. Centre of Excellence (COE) for Electric Vehicles will serve as Technology Demonstrator for Training, Skill Development, Learning, and Research & Development. Since its inception, SkillShark EduTech in association with Matrusri Engineering College have conducted Awareness Webinars for all the people connected with EV Ecosystem, Skill Development Programs for Engineering Students and Short Term Training Programs for Faculties. Apart from Programs, Two Unique Innovative Projects also got completed under the Center of Excellence, One is Wireless Charging System for E-Bicycle and the other one is Android Controlled EV Platform. Both of these projects were made from design to prototype by the Students at Center of Excellence. Education not only needs new ideas and inventions to make a meaningful impact but these new solutions must also “scale,” that is growing large enough, to serve millions of users. To innovate is to look beyond what we are currently doing and develop a novel idea that helps us to do our job in a new way. The purpose of any invention, therefore, is to create something different from what we have been doing, be it in quality or quantity, or both. To produce a considerable, transformative effect, the innovation must be put to work. Mobility is undergoing one of the most transformational shifts of a generation, with far-reaching implications for the way we live our lives. The future of mobility being fuelled by three key technology-driven disruptive trends: electrification of vehicles, connected & autonomous vehicles and Mobility-as-a-Service. Center of Excellence for Electric Vehicles will be the key platform for encouraging new ideas, innovations, projects, prototypes, products, solutions, and skilled workforce for Connected Autonomous Shared Electric Mobility.

Wireless Charging for E-Bicycle: Micro-electro-mobility refers to a range of small, lightweight vehicles operating at speeds typically below 25 km/h and driven by motor/battery. Looking at the major crisis that India is facing: Pollution and Traffic Congestion, in coming days Electric Bicycles will be the best way to promote zero-emission & affordable transportation. At the Center of Excellence, the team has developed Wireless Charging System for an Electric Bicycle. Customized Electric Bicycle with 250 W, 36 V BLDC Hub Motor & 36 V 12 Ah NMC Battery, was made earlier at COE in Feb 2021. Now the team has made a Wireless Charging System for that Bicycle using Wireless Power Transmission Technology. In EV Ecosystem, innovative & effective charging methodologies will come in the future to tackle the problem of Range Anxiety. Inductive Charging is one of them. Developed Wireless Charging System at COE is having two parts, one Transmitter & other Receiver. Transmitter Circuit is having SMPS (AC 230 V to DC 24 V20 Amp) Capacitors, Resistors, Inductors, and MOSFET along with Transmitter Coils. At the Receiver end, there is a Bridge Rectifier Circuit with the inductor, capacitor network & 250 W Boost Converter. They can get Charging Current & Voltage around 2 A & 40 V respectively for the first version of the system. In the coming days, the plan is to have a sophisticated structure & mechanism for wireless charging in E-Bicycle with Less Charging Time & More Charging Current. This Project is developed by Students: M. Sumanth Goud, M. Shashikanth, P. Jhansi, T. A glimpse of Wireless Charging System for E-Bicycle at the Center of Excellence

Android Controlled EV Platform: Automation is the formulation and application of technologies to produce and deliver goods and services with minimal human intervention. The implementation of automation technologies, techniques and processes improve the efficiency, reliability, and speed of many tasks that were previously performed by humans. Automation in Mobility is going to play a key role in the creation of the Future Mobility Ecosystem. The project, Android Controlled EV Platform is the first step while heading towards Building Autonomous Vehicles. The team at the Center of Excellence has developed this project with 4 wheel platform powered by Motors, Controller & Battery. This platform uses two 50 W DC Motors. One Motor is for Propulsion & the other motor is used for Powering Direction Control Mechanism operated by Worm Gear. These Motors are controlled by Microcontroller, Bluetooth Module & Relay Driver. The team has used four Relays for operating the Platform in forwarding, Reverse, Right & Left directions. The Electrical System used here is powered by a 12 V, 42 Ah Battery. Microcontroller triggers the control signal for Motors based on Bluetooth Command. The team has also developed an Android Application using which the movement command is given. The application used the Bluetooth Connectivity feature from Smart Phone. This Android Controlled EV Platform can be used as an Adaptive Automobile for serving the physically handicapped or elderly people. This Project is developed by Students: M. Sirihasa, S.
