Playing a pioneering role in transforming public transport worldwide to electric and autonomous, particularly in Europe, Karsan continues to grow with its innovative products. The brand has recently inked a new contract with Botosani Municipality in Romania, one of its main target markets, for 38 10-meter e-ATA buses, following the sale of 30 e-JESTs to the same city through its distributor AAR (Anadolu Automobil Rom) in previous months. Karsan, which has simultaneously signed another agreement with the Municipality of Alba Iulia in Romania to sell 6 e-JESTs, is taking firm steps towards having the country’s largest electric public transport fleet as of 2025. Karsan CEO Okan Baş shared his feelings about this success with the following words: “Romania is a very significant market for us, and one of the milestones of our growth in electric vehicles. We began this journey in 2019 by exporting our first 100% electric e-JEST model to Romania. At the end of 2022, we first exported our true-born electric e-ATA model to this country. We have recently received orders for 100 new electric vehicles with the tenders we have won in many cities from Galati to Botosani, Bacau to Sighișoara, and Alba Iulia. When we fulfill these orders, we will have a strong presence on Romanian roads with 365 electric vehicles. The close collaboration with our Romanian distributor AAR is a major factor in this achievement. We are taking firm steps towards becoming the brand to have Romania’s largest electric public transport fleet by 2025.”
Karsan, which has become one of the world’s most well-known brands in public mobility, continues to update the global transport infrastructure, particularly in Europe, with electric, autonomous, and hydrogen technologies. Offering service in 23 countries with over 1100 electric vehicles equipped with the most cutting-edge technology in the sector, Karsan bolsters its presence in Romania, one of its primary markets, in keeping with its expansion objectives. The people of Romania to travel with Karsan’s 365 electric vehicles!
Karsan continues to shape the future of transportation in Romania with its ecologically friendly and high-tech public transport solutions. Emphasizing the strategic importance of Romania for the brand, Karsan CEO Okan Baş said, “Romania is one of the milestones of our growth in electric mobility. We began this journey in 2019 by exporting our first 100% electric e-JEST model to Romania. At the end of 2022, we first exported our true-born electric e-ATA model to this country. We have recently received orders for 100 new electric vehicles with the tenders we have won in various Romanian cities including Galati, Botosani, Bacau, Sighișoara, and Alba Iulia. With the delivery of these orders, we will reach a total of 365 electric vehicle parks in Romania. However, it’s not sufficient for us. We aim to expand this electric vehicle park with the new tenders we will win in the coming period.” Stating that these achievements in Romania derive from their strong cooperation with their distributor AAR, and their customers who rely on their innovative solutions, Baş added, “We are resolutely moving forward to our goal of having Romania’s largest electric public transport fleet by 2025.”
e-ATA and e-JEST: Mobility Technology of the Future
Karsan’s full e-range vehicle family does not offer only transportation but also the next generation technology in public mobility. Named after Ata, which means “the family’s elder” in Turkish, the e-ATA series consists of the brand’s largest bus models. With its true-born electric structure, e-ATA makes a difference in public transport solutions owing to its excellent performance and variety of battery options. The battery options from 150 kWh to 600 kWh enable the e-ATA to offer a range of up to 450 kilometers. Produced with the goal of zero emissions, these vehicles create an environmentally friendly alternative and can be charged between 1 and 4 hours thanks to fast charging technology.
The 10-meter e-ATA model can carry 79 passengers, while the 12- and 18-meter versions have a higher capacity. The electric hub motors enable the e-ATA to easily traverse even the steepest slopes, while the low floor structure offers passengers a smooth and comfortable journey. The agreement made with the Romanian city Botosani for 38 units of the e-ATA 10-meter aims to develop an environmentally friendly and contemporary solution for urban transportation, while further reinforcing Karsan’s power in this market.
Karsan’s e-JEST in the minibus segment offers compact sizes, low energy consumption, and a range of up to 210 kilometers, perfectly adapting to urban traffic. The agreement inked for the e-JEST, which stands out as an environmentally friendly and comfortable solution for Alba Iulia, paves the way for Karsan to strengthen its footprint in Romania. Offering mobility solutions with its e-ATA and e-JEST models, Karsan also lays the foundations for a sustainable future.
