Bookings for the car is open in Chennai, Pune, Surat, Cochin, Jaipur, and Chandigarh from this month on wards.
MG Motor India is gradually expanding the wings of its electric crossover – the ZS EV – in the country launched early this year. The manufacturer has included six new cities in its sales network list for the model with its second phase of bookings, either via online or at the company’s dealership. Deliveries were previously available only in Delhi NCR, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bangalore. With this, the electric car can be booked in 11 cities in total across the country.
MG had earlier said that it has received more bookings for the ZS EV than the total number of electric cars sold in India last year. It was forced to halt new bookings for sometime owing to high number of bookings than what was planned for, further worsened by Covid-19 impacts on supply and closure of its manufacturing facility out to lockdown. The electric crossover is offered in two variants – ZS EV Excite and ZS EV Exclusive – priced at priced at INR 20.88 lakh and INR 23.58 lakh (ex-showroom price, New Delhi) respectively.
The ZS EV boasts an ARAI-certified driving range of 340 km, and is equipped with Type 2 and CCS charging that takes 6-8 hours (80 % SoC) with a 7 kW AC fast charging and just 50 minutes with a 50 kW CCS super-fast DC charging. The car also comes with a portable charger that can be plugged into any 15A socket, but may take a longer 16-18 hours to attain 80 percent SoC. It is powered by a three phase permanent-magnet synchronous motor that generates 105 kW of max power and 353 Nm of peak torque, by sourcing power from a 44.5 kWh battery pack. The car can hit 0-100 kmph acceleration in just 8.5 seconds.
MG claims that the ZS electric can achieve a running cost of INR 1 per km over a lakh kilometers inclusive of all energy and maintenance costs on an average. To help customers overcome range anxiety, the company has set up 10 DC chargers at its select dealerships in the country (where the model is available for sale) so far, along with 10 DC 50 kW super-fast charging stations in 5 cities through its partnership with Fortum Charge and Drive India.
