Olectra-BYD launches electric bus service for women in Nagpur

Taking a step towards extending support and offering convenience to women, Nagpur Municipal Corporation launched India’s First Electric Bus fleet for Women in Public Transportation service under its ‘Tejaswini’ initiative. The state-of-the-art 9-meter long electric buses from Olectra-BYD were flagged off by Mrs. Nanda Jichkar, Mayor of Nagpur.

During the launch of these eBuses for women, Mr. Anand Swaroop, Chief Operating Officer, Olectra said, “Olectra is proud to be an enabler of this initiative to promote more women participation in all avenues in the country. The Olectra-BYD buses are fully equipped to offer a variety of facilities which are required by women in a bus. Olectra-BYD eBuses are a result of our extensive R&D supplemented with latest technology which have proven its quality by covering 5 million kms across many cities in the country.”

With the increasing number of women joining the workforce and majority of the rest also becoming independent in their travel requirements, the need for resources also goes up to cater to the larger community. Since transport is a key requirement and taking a lead to ensure a hassle free and convenient ride, Nagpur Municipal Corporation launched these Electric Buses. These buses are expected to benefit around 1 lakh women passengers every month. On an average, running of these five will result in huge reduction in carbon emissions to the tune of 13 lakh tons of CO2, avoids 4 lakh liters of diesel saving significant costs on fuel each year by NMC which is equivalent to planting 6,500 trees.

eBuzz K7 – Women Friendly Facilities

These 9-meter long air-conditioned buses from Olectra-BYD exclusively for women passengers comes with several facilities offering a convenient ride. The low floor of the bus ensures women passengers to conveniently come up or step down from the bus. eBuzz K7 also has 3 CCTV cameras inside offering safety and a dustbin for disposing used diapers for the mothers travelling with a child. The noise less travel in Olectra-BYD eBuses also makes it convenient for the mothers to ensure uninterrupted peaceful sleep for their children. The bus with a capacity of 32+1 (driver) seats with an electronically controlled air suspension will offer a comfortable ride to the passengers. The lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery installed in the bus enables it to travel up to 200 kms in a single charge based on traffic conditions. The high-power fast AC charging system enables the battery to get fully recharged within 2-3 hours. eBuzz K 7 is also equipped to offer protection from short circuit, over temperature function and lightening to ensure safe ride.

With this deployment, Olectra-BYD is currently operating the country’s largest fleet of Electric Buses for commercial operations across the country covering 6 Cities in 4 states.

The other eminent dignitaries present on the occasion were, Mr. Abhijit Bangar, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner and Mr. Anand Swaroop, COO, Olectra, amongst others. Olectra-BYD is also the first EV company to achieve the coveted milestone of crossing 5 million kms cumulatively driven by its e-Buses under commercial operations in Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kerala and Pune, a testimony to its quality and sturdiness.
