Raptee.HV Secures TDB Backing, Becomes First EV Motorcycle OEM to Receive Government Funding

Two-wheelers

Raptee.HV, the Chennai-based electric motorcycle startup, has announced that it has secured strategic funding from the Technology Development Board (TDB) under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India. This makes Raptee.HV the first electric motorcycle OEM in the country to receive financial support from TDB, highlighting its deep-tech, research-first approach to mobility innovation.

The fresh funding will help Raptee.HV advance its proprietary high-voltage platform and accelerate its push into the fast-growing USD 1 billion performance electric motorcycle market.

Mr. Dinesh Arjun, CEO and Co-Founder of Raptee.HV., said, “This support from TDB is a strong endorsement of Raptee.HV’s mission to redefine performance electric mobility from India, for the world. In the absence of an ecosystem for high-voltage motorcycle architecture, we built our own through uncompromising engineering. The trust placed in us by both TDB and ARAI-AMTIF strengthens our resolve to push the boundaries of motorcycle electrification.”

In 2021, the company also received a ₹3.25 crore non-dilutive grant from ARAI-AMTIF under the Ministry of Heavy Industries. With this latest TDB backing, Raptee.HV joins a select list of breakthrough Indian innovations—such as the Tata Indica and Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine—that have received TDB support. It is also TDB’s first investment in the EV motorcycle segment, marking a strong signal of India’s commitment to next-generation mobility.

Raptee.HV stands apart from many EV players by building its entire motorcycle platform ground-up on high-voltage car technology. Its motorcycles deliver car-like performance, reliability, and CCS2 fast-charging convenience—making them the only two-wheelers compatible with India’s growing electric car charging network.

Founded in 2019 by ex-Tesla engineer Dinesh Arjun and three co-founders, Raptee.HV operates a 4.5-acre plant in Chennai with an annual capacity of 100,000 units and has secured 40 acres at SIPCOT Cheyyar for future expansion. The company has raised USD 5 million in pre-Series A funding and is now closing a $ 20 million Series A round. With over 120 employees and 156 patents filed, Raptee.HV is positioning itself to lead India’s performance electric motorcycle revolution.
